“Antena 1” Radio features the new smart Street Lighting system of Tomar municipality in the program “Portugal em Direto”
Miguel Allen Lima, CEO of Arquiled, and Anabela Freitas, Mayor of Tomar, explain the technology involved, the innovative nature of the project and the benefits to the municipality and citizens.
“Smart, cheaper and more ecological”, the new street lighting system of the municipality of Tomar, developed by Arquiled includes 14,000 intelligent LED luminaires, which will replace conventional luminaires throughout the county.
Connected in a network through LoRaWAN® communications, the luminaires will allow to control not only the luminous flux of each luminaire, but also monitor the flow level and contamination of the Nabão River and the loss of water from the hydrants.
But the future possibilities of the system are almost unlimited because, according to Miguel Allen Lima, “the smart city infrastructure” now created allows to connect “thousands or millions of devices”. In “Portugal Direto”, the CEO of Arquiled explains how, by giving concrete examples and adding that there are other municipalities interested in implementing Arquiled’s technology and unveiling that the Company is preparing to work on other smart cities in … a different latitude.
The smart street lighting system of the municipality is expected to be completed by the end of the year and will allow a minimum consumption savings of 70%. The investment is approximately 9 million euros, but the cost to the municipality is zero: Anabela Freitas, the Mayor, explains the financial model of the project, potentially replicable by other municipalities.
